Smite

SMITE is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game from Hi-Rez Studios, available on Xbox and PC. Players work in teams of three or five to battle, combining role-play skills with strategy tactics to achieve the best result and win the game.

There are several different methods of play, including Assault, Domination, Conquest and Arena for players to choose their favourite way to play the game.

There are many, many MOBA games and novices may be forgiven for dismissing SMITE (also styled Smite) as just another run-of-the-mill offering in the genre. But this is to ignore the strong mythical features that are based on famous and well-loved myths from the full panoply of human history. This exotic background alone makes SMITE one of the best MOBA games to play. Apart from the various ways to play, SMITE includes innovative facets like the 'worship' function where players can go to bat for their favourite mythical god or goddess. Devotion to the player's preferred deity can see the player being well-rewarded for their loyalty.

Game-play is based on two teams of up to five players, warring with each other as are many MOBA games, but unlike many other offerings, SMITE offers more opportunities for the players to demonstrate their own initiative, by planning tactical manoeuvres and synchronising attacks with team-mates. The graphics are superb, surprisingly so according to some reviewers, and the visual appeal is constantly being upgraded as the developers continue to work on the game. The characters' voices are excellent, with customisation available to make characters sound more menacing, but the soundtrack/ background music leaves a little to be desired.

To summarise, SMITE is an excellent MOBA game, with good graphics, tight action and smooth game-play. The developers are not sitting on their laurels and continue to improve the game, ensuring that it carves a distinct niche in the wonderful world of MOBA games.
